Cavs need SG, SF

Now that the trade deadline has passed and the Cavs 5.5 games back out of the 8th and final seed of the playoffs, it's time to start talking about who the Cavaliers need to draft. With 4 picks in this year's upcoming draft, they will look to fill a few needs. The team's blatantly obvious hole is a at Shooting Guard. The Cavs only have 38-year-old Anthony Parker and undrafted prospect Manny Harris on the roster. Parker really doesn't do too much and Harris has spent time in the D-League this year, so it looks like the SG need will need to be addressed during this year's draft. Fortunately for the Cavs, this year's draft class is loaded with great wing players. With players like Florida's Bradley Beal, Ohio State's William Buford, and Duke's Austin Rivers it looks as if the Cavs will be poised to upgrade their weakest position in this year's draft. If the draft were to be today, the Cavaliers would be drafting around the 7th spot and that's where many experts expect Bradley Beal to go.

Bradley Beal, 6-3, 207lbs, 18 years old, Freshman, Florida
Beal is a perfect fit for the Cavaliers, he can create his own shot or play off the ball with Kyrie Irving at the point. Beal would provide Irving an offensive threat to go along with Antawn Jamison and Alonzo Gee. He would step right into the starting SG position and help the team immensely on both offense and defense. Beal averaged 14.8 points and 6.7 rebounds this year while leading his Florida Gators to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. I don't think anyone would complain if the Cavaliers used their top pick on Bradley Beal this year.

William Buford, 6-6, 220lbs, 22 years old, Senior, Ohio State
William Buford would provide the Cavaliers with size and athleticism at the 2 or 3 positions, something they lack severely. Since Buford can play either the SG or SF position, he is an interesting prospect. He can shoot from all ranges and is very experienced in all kinds of situations. He has averaged around 14 points a game in his 4-year career at Ohio State. While Buford won't be a lottery pick, the Cavs could take him with their 1st round pick from the Lakers or their first 2nd round pick. He has a lot of potential.

Austin Rivers, 6-4, 200lbs, 19 years old, Freshman, Duke
Austin Rivers was the top prospect out of high school last year. He played very well, but not up to the expectations he came into Duke with. Rivers averaged 15.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He hit big shots and has an excellent jump shot to go along with his amazing ability to drive to the basket. However, there a few serious knocks on Rivers that may cause him to fall out of the lottery. Rivers has had some character issues involving his ego and selfishness and the Cavs certainly don't want another superstar like that. (Example 1: LeBron James) Another knock on him is he has to dominate the ball to be effective which wouldn't really work in Cleveland with Kyrie Irving at point guard. However, if Austin Rivers is still available when the Cavs are on the clock with their second 1st round pick I don't see them passing up on his talent.

Kyrie Clutch

With yet another game-winning layup, I think it's safe to say Kyrie Irving is clutch. Irving's layup with 4 seconds left gave the Cavaliers a 100-99 victory over the Nuggets. That marks his 3rd game-winning layup in just 33 games to go along with his game-sealing free throws against the Sacramento Kings. After driving down the court for the game-winner, you could hear Kyrie yell, "4th quarter! This is my time!" And he has every right to be confident. Irving leads the Eastern Conference in 4th quarter scoring as a rookie. in fact, he scores most of his points in the 4th quarter. Just imagine how good he'll be in a few years. Remember, he's only 19 years old.

Is RG3 the right QB for the Browns?

With the NFL combine upon us, Browns fans are doing what they do best, talking NFL Draft. Since were at the top of the draft nearly every year, this is one of the most exciting times of the year for Browns fans compared to what happens on the field. Always gives me that false sense of progress. Most fans are calling for the Browns to draft Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. He has it all: the size, speed, and intelligence. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner ran a 4.41 40-yard dash on Sunday. The only problem is the Browns would have to trade up to the #2 spot to draft him. That would probably cost them their #4 and #22 pick in this year's draft.

I say we do it. Griffin is just one of those guys you can't pass up. What do you think?

Kyrie's Concussion

We all know concussions are getting a great deal of attention lately. And they're about to get much more with the announcement that Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard Kyrie Irving has a concussion. Irving suffered the concussion when his head hit the knee of Miami's Dwyane Wade last week. The NBA implemented a new concussion policy before this season and it is much more strict than in previous years. Certain steps must be completed before the player can return to the court.Cavs coach Byron Scott has said back when he played when he had a headache he would just take some asprins. This shows how much the treatment and awareness of concussions has changed over the years. It looks as if Kyrie won't be back until at least Wednesday this week. The Cavs record without their star point guard has been 1-2 so I'm sure they're hoping for a quick recovery for Kyrie. As long as he's back before LeBron James' return to Cleveland on February 17th, I'm okay with it.

Should we trade Sessions?

As of late, I've heard several rumors about the availability of Cavs backup point guard Ramon Sessions. Many of the rumors center around the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are in dire need of a capable point guard and Ramon would fill that vacancy perfect, so it makes sense that the Lakers are interested. But what do they have to offer the Cavs? The Cavs are a rebuilding team so they want young talent and draft picks. As it is now, L.A has 2 first round draft picks in the 2012 Draft which should be very appealing to the Cavs. If I was Chris Grant, G.M of the Cavaliers, I would only trade Sessions for those 2 first round draft choices as the Lakers really have nothing else to offer. The only way I trade Sessions, who is a great player on this Cavs team and runs the team's second offense, is if the Cavs receive two draft choices in return.

Kyrie showing why he was #1 pick

Only 18 games into his NBA career and Cavs guard Kyrie Irving is showing flashes of super stardom. Irving went off Friday night for 32 points, a career high, in a 3-point loss to the New Jersey Nets. Nonetheless, it was a very promising and impressive performance. Since this year is a rebuilding year for the Cavaliers I'd rather focus on the players and how they're doing and the future of the Cavs than wins and losses.  But with Kyrie Irving as their star, the Cavaliers may not be rebuilding for long. I believe he will continue to improve and will become one of the top players in the league. And when that happens the Cavs will be in contention for that coveted NBA title once again.

Cavs rebound against Knicks.

Maybe it was just the uniforms. The Cleveland Cavaliers stoppped a 4-game losing streak by beating the New York Knicks 91-81 on Wednesday while debuting some new alternate uniforms. It was a great game overall for the Cavs but especially good for forward Anderson Varejao. Varejao easily had his best game of the season with 10 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists that sparked the team to victory. Hopefully, we can see more of this to come from our Cleveland Cavaliers.

The new uniforms were based on a Cavs fansite,"CavFanatics." The jersey is navy blue with wine lettering outlined by gold. The text across the chest says "Cavs" instead of the usual "Cavaliers."
